Going On A Wonder Walk

Wonder Walkers by Micha Archer is a beautifully illustrated picture book— it won a Caldecott Honor in 2022– about two kids going on a wonder walk. Which means they leave their house to explore the world around them. From the ground to the forest and the trees, bodies of water— oceans and rivers, shells and leaves, rain and fog, and the sun and the moon. They find the beauty in nature— questioning all that they see, all that they imagine.

The illustrations really make this book. A combination of collage and oil, they are a wonder. Lots to explore in each detailed image. Looking at the illustrations is going on a wonder walk of your very own.

The story is simple. It’s a story about simple things. About nature. About wondering. About questioning. About seeing beauty all around you. Taking small moments and wondering about your every day experiences.

I enjoy stories like this. Stories that create an experience. That allow me to question and experience my world in a different way. Wonder Walkers does just this. We can all be wonder walkers. We can all go on a wonder walk. We only need to step outside our front door.
