Creating an Author Website

Create a website to showcase who you are as an author to agents, publishers, editors, etc. Even if you are not yet published, as in my instance, a website allows you the opportunity to build a base, to put yourself and what you have to offer out there.

Creating a website doesn’t have to be overwhelming or complicated. It can be as simple as a page with your name, your photo and a brief bio. Simply by creating this presence, you are allowing yourself to be known and taken seriously as a writer.

Start simple. Start small. And as you grow and develop or ponder ways to improve your writer-self the website can grow and change, it should not be static. My website is a continual work in progress as I think of ways to enhance it and ways that I want to share my author journey.

There are a ton of platforms to use to create a website. I won’t go into detail here, as there are already plenty of resources available that do it much better than I can. So do a simple search on creating a website and start browsing. I currently am using WordPress. It is a fairly easy and intuitive platform if you know your way around the usual software programs. When you set up an account, they will also walk you through all the ins and outs of getting a hosting company and buying a domain name, etc. It is a good place to start.

So get out there and create a website to let the world know that you are an author and this is what you are about.
